Blog and Counter-Blog
Along the sidelines of my blog a battle has developed. All's fair in love and war, and, in this new age of technology, in blogging, as well. About a month ago a reader known as "W" made some comments that rubbed a few readers the "wrong way." As retorts started to roll in, a reader known as "Bullet" emerged as a staunch defender of yours truly and of all that is good and right. "W" didn't back down and counter-blogged, which brought "The Carver" into the fray.
In the weeks following, no matter what the blog topic, the barbs have been tossed, the challenges set forth, from "W" to "Bullet" to "The Carver." And, now enters "Tom-A-Hawk" to even the sides at two-a-piece. Sort of reminds me of the good old days of wrestling when Hulk Hogan and Jake the Snake took on the Bushwackers in a Battle Royale.
Where will it all end? No one knows. And no one knows who next will enter the blog / counter-blog battle. Doesn't matter. It's 2006. You can blog , you can counter-blog, but, as "Bullet" says, just don't be a "blog-hog." What's nice is that I hold the fate in the balance, because the original blogger (me, in this case) holds the key in deciding what eventually appears at "On the Sly." In the touch of a delete key I can rub out the profound thoughts of a blog commentator. So, fret not, I'll stand guard and make sure that "W" and "Bullet" and "The Carver," good sportsmen all, play within my foxy rules!

hey,"hawk" - good mention regarding the carpenter points..but I'll bet Peter, Mary Sue, Jodi and Vickie and even Harry probably added to that total. But I still don't think they outscored the Ryan's (even without Harold contributing)

Hey, we need some rules. We could add Carl King from OLVA to his kids at St.Johns or Bob Garrow's production from his alma-mater with his sons Mark and Guy at PHS. And where did Fuzzy play his high school hoops, and did the Fessettes outscore the Mcfaddens (Tom-and the three boys-Mark, Steve, & Dennis)? What about Cindy Garrant and Leo, Jesse, and David. This may be way too much for our little heads to decipher. Maybe the 'Fox' can check some of his old game films.
Too bad about "W" he was probably out of material. Let's make it a point to vote for him in November, maybe even as a write-in.

To "W",
First of all, I never said "BUSH:, second, I did err on the part of Tom Loughan and should have corrected that but I appreciate your assistance in coming to my aid. Lastly, all of us do not want you to exit this arena as you are one of the most interesting players. Please reconsider. As for the Carver's request for families, I go with the Ryan's from Saranac, there were 4, Tom, Mike, Patricia, and Linda. I think they would be tough to beat.
(Foxy's note: Ah, yes, Bullet, we can't forget the ladies! Wise late-game move from the Bullet. He's quicker on his feet than anyone ever gave him credit for. Big fourth-quarter play for Bullet!)

I'd put the Carpenters from SJA (John, Larry, & Mickey) slightly ahead of the more productive Finneys from Peru (Bill & Bobby) based on the 3:2 advantage. The Fessettes from SJA & the Ryans from Saranac would be in close contention.
I think I saw "W" crying in his beer at Peabodys last night - said something about "I quit, you win" or "I'm taking my ball and going home-the game's over."

Hey W, don't quit now, the campaign can wait (goin be a lopsided victory for you anyway) and to be honest I think we all enjoy hearing from you. I 'd like to pose an interesting question, and I'm not sure if we'll ever know the answer but some of us were talking about all time leading scorers (basketball) as a family at each school. We came up with some interesting names, wondering what the rest of you think! (immediate family only) cousins don't count!

its been great reading about our youth and seeing names that bring about fond memories. i grew up
a montcalmer, we had pickup games of baseball often times fielding full teams. remember the large wood bleachers at the old park on bailey avenue. mom and pop stores............happy lamare's, opposite the fourth ward tavern shouldn't go unmentioned.

THE FINAL BLOG
I was so hurt by bullet's comment about my childhood games as being 'BUSH' league that I've decided to end my counterblogging forever. This is the last one-a welcome statement to most. I must, however, correct the "all and mighty" and note that the Loughan he was referring to was Tom, the standout basketball and baseball player for Plattsburgh State 'back in the day'. His brother, Mike, carried the memorable nickname of "buger" and was a local a firefighter and they were cousins to Billy & Bobby Loughan.
As for bullet, clicking on one's name sometimes brings hints to the questions you are seeking. Maybe Eddie Feigner was before his time, but he surely remembers the great fast pitch softball that was held regularly at St.Peter's field. Carry on, you bloggers, my job here is done, I'm off to work on my campaign. (tbi)

Ah the Mom and Pop store. I was a Bailey boy and going to Fountains will never be forgotten. As a matter of fact I live in Rochester now and I told my brother I found a store just like Fountains here. I get all my meat there and I swear the whole crew is there, Cat, Bill, Fox, Gary, Les, John. Hopefully the best memories I have has been passed to my daughters. I was able to bring them in to Fountains before they closed and had them get candy just like I did. I had them sit on the coolers in the back and talk to "the boys'. Of course they didn't bust their chops about the Red Sox's like I did. Ok they may still be my memories but reading your blog really woke them up. Thanks

Foxy,
Who the heck would give you a hard time? Man, you are too good of a guy for anyone to give you grief.
