The Blogoteers Second Birthday!

In just over a month the On the Sly blog will be two years old. Born on December 12, 2005, somehow On the Sly has survived nearly two years. When the editorial staff first approached me about this endeavor, I had my doubts. Many of them.

However, Bob and Lois and Bob and Roger reassured me that this new idea would work. Maybe they were just covering up, but their no-doubt positive attitude encouraged me to give it a try.

And now On the Sly has been hanging around the website almost two years. For those interested in statistics and trivia, here are a few thoughts:

The first blog was titled "Foxy Intro: What's a Blog?" and it was followed four days later by the first real blog called "A Tale of a Tail," the story of my quest to grow a ponytail after a lifetime of being told to "get a haircut." I didn't realize at that time that it would take nearly two years to make the fashion statement I had been dreaming about.

This blog is number 257 on the list and the blogs have been accompanied by 2220 published comments by the real stars of On the Sly, the Blogoteers! Some blogoteers joined the club and left, some have returned, and some have been around for the entire ride.

One of the first Blogoteers, the Carver, sees reason to celebrate. Last year in December we held an impromptu last-minute gathering of blogoteers and it proved to be fun and interestng. I was able to meet face-to-face with some of my partners at On the Sly. Some revealed their identities and others didn't. I have to admit that I still don't know who "rubble" is!

Nevertheless, the time is near! The date: Friday, December 7. The site: Meron's in Plattsburgh. Time: from 5pm on. Hosted by: the Carver and the Fox.

We hope this will be an annual event where we can share good times, share some future blog ideas (I'll bring my notepad), and enjoy cold drinks or hot coffee. Maybe we'll even play "Rate the Ponytail!" Blogoteers, who probably have a few favorite recipes up their sleeves, are invited to bring a favorite snack.

I don't think the tee-shirts will be ready for this year's party, but by next year, look out! Blogoteers Unite!

Woo hooo! A Blogoteer party! I will try my best to make it there and share in the celebration.

Congrats on two wonderfully informative and entertaining years. I look forward to many more!

Kern

(Foxy's note: Thanks, Kern ... and would be great to see you. Bring Al!)

Foxy, congratulations! Thank you for giving me a way to "keep" contact with Plattsburgh!
Leah

Congratulations, Foxy, on two years of offering pure enjoyment for the blogoteers.

Two years in a retirement job is also something to congratulate! I look forward to many more years of memories and observations by Foxy.

(Foxy's note: Thanks, Elaine!)

Well, Foxy, you soon will be blogging longer than some politicians are in office! And that is a good thing!

On December 7th, let's all talk about blogging ideas to suggest to The Foxman! I am sure it will be quite a thinktank at Meron's that night.

Congratulations, my friend, for promoting the North Country and its past!

(Foxy's note: Will look forward to seeing you on the 7th, The Donald.)

Two years! I can't believe it, but thanks for sharing your time with us. Ken and I have enjoyed talking about the many memories the blogeteers have written about. Your blog is thought provoking and fun on a level that keeps us all smiling. I have enjoyed the Chief's comments from down south even tho he still fibs every now and then! Again, thank you and I'll maybe see you at the December celebration!

Your friend, miss d

(Foxy's note: Would be great to hang out with miss d and Ken on December 7th -- or even with miss d if Ken can't make it!)

Congratulations Foxy, the memories you stir are those that stay with the soul. Keep them coming!

(Foxy's note: Thanks, Juan! See you December 7?)

congratulations on the 2nd anniversary..it has been great having a lot of good memories brought back..december 7th may be a good excuse to come north for a visit.

(Foxy's note: Wow, that would be great! The Carver is putting in his request every morning for great weather in early December so we can get a few travelers to the December 7th party.)

Foxy, congrats on the 2nd anniversary of your blog. Your insight , like others have said, keeps us remembering our past in the north country, the great little radio stations, wptz, (remember well when it was on Cornelia St. and not the old Moffit Rd.) Bailey Avenue Ball Park, Saturday afternoon movie at the Strand theater , and an ice cream soda at the Woolworths or Fischman's department stores downtown. and those wonderful michigan red hots, Even though we are all over this country. Although many of our hang outs and hot spots are no longer with us, it's still nice to hear others remember them.
Congrats on your beloved Dodgers signing new Manager Joe Torre. I hope he is as successful as he was with the Yankees.
It's also nice to know where us Seniors can get a meal when we come visit!!

(Foxy's note: Great to hear from you, sparcat! Wish you could make it to Plattsburgh on December 7th.)

Foxy,
I can't thank you enough for all the laughs & smiles (and a couple of tears) you and fellow Blogoteers have given me over the past 2 years!
Ahhhh, the memories.
I won't be there for the anniversary celebration, but in your honor I will make a gallon of michigan sauce (I've never learned how to make less) and imagine I'm in Plattsburgh with y'all while I eat a michigan, with, buried.
Dianne in Austin

(Foxy's note: Thanks, Dianne. And I'll toast one to you on that day, wishing you well in Texas!)

Congrats Foxy!
My only wish is that you could celebrate the anniversary on the "half year" too, say maybe in July. No way in hell I'm coming to Pburgh in December from Florida.....well, maybe for certain reasons I would but it's a certain in July for me!
Have fun at the December celebration!

(Foxy's note: If the Blogoteer group keep growing maybe we can have our first Blogoteers Convention in Plattsburgh in July!)

Congratulations Foxy and thanks. I've been living in Colorado for the last ten years and your blog has got me through more than a couple of bouts of home sickness in the last two years. My wife and I moved back to plattsburgh this month but we will keep on reading your blog.

(Foxy's note: Glad you are back! Do you know where Meron's is?)

Holy smokes Fox, is it that time already?...what to bring, what to bring....
I'll have to dig into my recipe book..perhaps a "creamy bee" michigan, a grill cheese from the "crest" or something from the lunch counters at Fishman's, "Monkey Wards" or LH Greens..maybe pick up some "tasty dogs" at Fountains. Beverages, maybe a root beer float from A&W, perhaps a chocolate soda from Meyer's Drug's soda fountain or the "Frosty Dairy Bar"...Snacks, maybe pick up something at Murrays, Yelles, Bedards or Ashlines. do they still make those "Country Kitchen " chips... or the "Humpty Dumpty' chips " in the big cans?
I'll track down "old Timer" he's got many, many,,,many years of experience for these types of events...hoping you will all try to make it!... as always it's free if you come and 20 bucks if you don't ! If you've got something in mind that you'd like to bring, let us know, Skip, easy on the spices on the Polish Sausage! and as always there'll be "Happy Hour " prices, (full price and Gracie's happy!)
and yes Foxy.. "There is a Santa Claus!" some call him Mr Torre.

(Foxy's note: Thanks for the good plug and the support, the Carver! Couldn't have done it without ya. Sure hope Fred Forkey can make it, and Wayne Lashway, and maybe Kathy on a trip back home. Did Randy ever get here this summer? Or Woody? Make sure Bullet and Vin Scully know about this. Hope Crusher comes over! I owe him a soda for helping me out in football.)

Foxy; Congratulations for keeping former residents of Plattsburgh interested in the City 's Past and Present. The Enthusiasm from your Blog is contagious and I see it daily with the comments of your readers! I look forward each morning to reading the Blog and the effects it has on the readers. It's your commitment to share wonderful stories about people and places that pull us back to the good times growing up in Plattsburgh! Keep up the great job and may we keep celebrating "On The Sly" for many more years.

(Foxy's note: Lenny, thanks for your kind words. And for Blogoteers who may not realize it, Lenny was better known as "Popcorn" in his Plattsburgh heydays as an outstanding Golden Gloves boxer.)

Early congratulations on a second memorable year. Although I am not as old and wise as the Skipper I have been around long enough to see the turtles at Fishmans, converse with Sister Theodore about the Red Sox, shop at Bennett's Toy Store, had ice cream from Finney's Freezer, eaten at the Root Beer Barrel as well as spent the day at Land of Make Believe. Just a few more things that kids can't do today.
Sounds like a meeting at Merons must be a pretty big event. Perhaps consideration could be given for bumper stickers at some point, could put it right next to my one for Ausable Chasm and 1001 Animals. Never did count all the animals. Still have my Clutch Cargo bumper sticker on my bunk bed.

(Foxy's note: Great comments, rubble!)
