Bret Favre's At My House Sunday
I finally did it! I broke down, amidst encouragement from several friends, a certain someone and a handful of Blogoteers -- and bought a new bigger-screen, wide-screen television.
It was an adventure made easy by my televsion producer, Mark Tiffer, and his technical advisor, Jacqueline. Tiffer told me that I should limit my shopping to two stores in the area, mostly based upon service after the purchase.
After comparison shopping and some great price-matching, which I didn't even realize some stores do, I ended up laying down my plastic card for a SAMSUNG 40" LCD-HD. I added the HDMI cord from the store and the HD cable box from Charter Communications and, lo and behold, I was ready to watch last weekend's NFL playoff games.
Tiffer saved me over $400 with his knowledge of the retail business. Stores might not even advertise that they price-match, but if you're shopping for an expensive item, you might want to inquire about that.
I settled into my favorite living room spot last Sunday to watch the Green Bay Packers face the San Diego Chargers. My first football game on my own 40" LCD-HD. High definition sure is something. I couldn't believe it. It was as though I was at the game. Or, better yet, as though Bret Favre had brought the game right to 7 Saratoga Court.
It looks like Bret has a cavity on his upper left bicuspid. A man of his means will probably get that fixed during the off-season. That's how close I was to the action, though.
When it started snowing in Green Bay I put on my jacket. When Greg Jennings caught a touchdown pass and jumped into the crowd, I put my arms out. I've decided that there is nothing quite like this new toy I have.
And I can't wait for this Sunday. No doubt Favre will be right in my living room again as he takes on the New York Giants. I never thought I'd be so happy to spend so much money. My little 27" television is a David next to my Goliath.
And you may not believe this, but that old 27" television weighs way more than the wide-screen I have perched in my living room now. All those Blogoteers who told me in 2007 that I should buy a new television were right!
I think it's great that Favre will be in my living room this Sunday. The only problem for him, though, is that I've also invited Eli Manning. Eli's coming. And so is Plaxico Burris, bad ankle and all. And so is that wildman runner, Ahmad Bradshaw. And, if I widen my front door, I'll have Brandon Jacobs as well.
Those guys will have a big day over on Saratoga Court. While I'm sharing my steamed clams and shrimp with them, they'll also be dining on the Packers swiss-cheese-like defense. The Giants will win by 3 and, in two weeks, Eli's coming back to my living room for the Saratoga Court Super Bowl.

You know, it's such a coincidence - I went TV shopping yesterday and decided the best TV picture available is the Samsung - then I see this blog today. Great minds think alike?

Oh sure, the big screens are nice, but nothing like being there to see the Pats lift the Lamar Hunt trophy.
I have a 42" Pansonic plasma, but now that I saw Craig's good news in his blog, I am ripping down my mini-screen and waiting for my bank to approve the $100,000 loan to get my new one!
I'll let you know if I have it in time for the 74 to nuthin rout that Rubble is predicting. I'm more of a realist...38-10 for their fourth Lombardi in 7 years.

My wife's been bugging me for years to get one of those things. This holiday season, I finally gave in and it's the best purchase I've ever been cajoled to make!
Mr. Tynes made you a profit, Foxy! Go Giants !

Congrats on the new purchase...those close ups paid off...Giants by 3!!

I"m going out on a limb here but:
Patriots over the Chargers 21-12
Giants over the Packers 23-20
Patirots 74- Giants 0 (Another new record)
Better invite Tom Coughlin in too from the cold or he will miss the SuperBowl with a frostbitten face.
Latest Rumor is that Britney Spears is going to "perform" at SuperBowl halftime show. Will put Janet Jackson to shame. Fortunately for you, you have High Def.

Foxy,
Congratulations on your new TV. But guess what? It's already a dinosaur. Panasonic just came out with a 150 inch TV. With all the local ladies rushing out to buy one just to see the 12 foot Foxy Gagnon on Channel 15, I'm going to buy Panasonic stock.
Craig Mathews
(Foxy's note: Yikes! That's a scary thought, Craig!)

Tom-a-hawk, I'm with you on this one (odd, I know!)... all this high tech crap can't be good for the social skills,,, but what the hell ... if they wanta call it progress so be it.... Used to be you 'd check in your 6 shooters when you stop at the bar... now Gracie's got a new "check your cell phone policy" at the door ...just recently someone's cell phone went off and about 10 of us all reached for our holsters for a draw!...
I miss the days of "JO" or "JORDON"1- 2995...but hell I miss alot things! the green monster at Bailey Ave, the old Catholic basketball league, but probably most of all, I miss seeing the boys hangin by the back cooler at Fountain & Lucas, buying tasty dogs or having gary, john or fox cutting you the perfect piece of steak. while mannix rattled off his predictions on the upcoming high school football games!
PS: Fox, glad you got the big screen...must be great for those higher number 800 channels on cable! ..haven't seen you outside in days!
You OK ?? should we drop off any supplies??
(Foxy's note: Thanks for the concern, The Carver, but I"m doing OK. I stock up once a week on clams and shrimp and don't even need to go out again. I've also got plenty of firewood in case we get another ice storm.)

All you need now is either a HD or Blu-Ray DVD player. These 2 formats are in a war similar to the Beta/VHS battle waged in the 80's. I have a Blu-Ray player and the picture is amazing.
Patriots 34, Chargers 17.
Packers 27, Giants 24.
Patriots 41, Packers 38.
Gary, the Packers actually beat the Seahawks in the snow. The Giants beat the Cowboys in Dallas.
(Foxy's note: Leave to UPS Dave to straighten out that NFL playoff mess for us. Once again, UPS Dave delivers!)

Fox,
Glad to hear that you got yourself that big screen television. However, now I think you might need to go and get your eyes checked. I mean, I'm blind and even I can see that the Giants are going home after this weekend's games. (grin)
(Foxy's note: I'll bet you a friendly "I told you so" that I am right, Kathy!)

OK, ‘W’ we all get your point, but be careful what you write. Someday you’ll want to look back at all this and laugh. Life’s not always like a box of chocolates, and that’s all I’ve got to say about that….TBI

Look how far we’ve come with technology, but where is it all going? I can remember talking to girls for hours on the phone ‘back in the day’ and wondering if the operator was listening. As a family we took turns and were rationed for time on the one land-line in & out of the house. During the summer months we didn’t care because we were making our own fun out doors. I expect my parents and grandparents socialized at barn-raisings, sock-hop or harvest celebrations, and I attended more than one or two Y-dance and hung out at the Pizza Corner discussing the issues of the day. These were the rights of passage, but where are they today?
Big screens, you-tube, cell phones, Hi-def, my-space, facebook, webpages, text messaging, cyber-casts, blogs.. Will ‘Blue Tooth’ technology eventually be implanted into everyone and make them user ready to become drive thru attendants? How will we determine if someone is talking to themselves or on the phone and how will we know if that person isn’t brokering some massive deal over the airwaves or just crazy and responding to the voices in his/her head? What, in the end, will we decide is the best mode of communication or will we have to decide at all?
Remember the days when Mike Mannix could yell a joke to Bill Frandino in friendly banter across the bar at Meron’s and everyone could enjoy the camaraderie with a cold one after a game of hoops? Foxy’s blog reminisces about such days and he, alone, has created bloggers, bloggateers, and counter-bloggers that didn’t exist a few years ago. Are today’s adolescents in some way living the Cheers-type-experience that will be communicated to future generations. Will water cooler conversations eventually become a memory from the past, only to be replaced by some techno invention still to be devised?
Are cell phone conversations so important, that they must exist in every venue rendering no place as private any longer? Where are we headed as a society? Will parents be instructing their children on the protocols of communication or vice-versa? Such burning questions! One must click on my name for further insight and as always….TBI

Next, it's time for the HD video equipment for NCCN programming.
(Foxy's note: That's a great big wish, Rick K ... let's see what happens in July 2008.)

Hey Foxy-
As usual, great blog! I am thinking about doing the same when my old 27 inch Panasonic dies, but must confess the notion of seeing all those details scares me; too much information.
While I would like to see GB in the superbowl, I have to root for the Pats and Giants, due to the picks made in the office football pool. I'll be watching both games in fuzzy analog.
Anyway, I think you were so taken up with your new toy, you forgot who was playing whom; the Chargers beat up on the Colts and Brett Favre and the Pack destroyed the Cowboys.
But who can blame you? You lucky guy, enjoy!
Gary '66
(Foxy's note: Great catch, Gary! Thanks for the correction! Nice to hear from you.)
