Happy April Fool's Day!
OK - I'll stay!
When I hurriedly wrote my April 1st blog this morning before heading off to school, I had no idea that I would get so much enjoyment at the end of the day. Once again, the Blogoteers rose to the occasion.
My April Fool's Day joke didn't fool everyone, but it caught many readers off guard. No one jumped off a bridge or jumped in front of an Amtrak, but many Blogoteers wished me well or came up with alternatives so that the On the Sly blog might somehow stay alive.
My April Fool's Day hoax did lead to some heartfelt comments and even a few identity confessions. But how could I ever stop writing this blog after reading such wonderful comments by my band of Blogoteers? I had no idea how many people consider me part of their day. I had no idea that even after 300 blogs the blogosphere wants more!
When I returned to my home after a day on the job, I sat at my computer and found messages from 7:36am and throughout the day. More comments in an eight-hour time span than I had ever received. The messages were from Saratoga and Albany and Florida, from Saratoga Court to Rugar Street to Cumberland Head. From mid-town to the mid-West. Even one from England!
I grinned and chuckled and then guffawed. The more comments I read, the more I laughed. Thank you to all for such a fun April Fool's Day.
I was going to keep my hoax going for a few more days, in hopes my bosses on the editorial staff might be coerced into upping the ante to keep me writing On the Sly. But I felt that by the end of the day, the truth should be told.
With this blog, I've started on my next 300. I hope you'll stay with me for the trip.

hey fox - good one. I just got back and had to read through the last few blogs that I missed. You sure got a few laughs in on your April fool's joke. Keep 'em comin'! and if you need any fodder for a blog go see your neighbors, I'm sure they'll help - then again???????????

Foxy,
What a hectic 3 days it’s been. You can’t imagine what a turmoil you’ve put Plattsburgh through. With news of your demise, there was a full forced effort to fill the gaps in the idle minds of the bloggers you were apparently abandoning. I headed the assault and quickly entered into negotiations with the Press to be your replacement. I assured them of the support I had garnered:
‘Carver’ would be arranging the victory party at the watering hole, and I don’t mean the tub in your basement.
‘Jim Carr’ would be reserving the A seats and charging for the view to get working capital.
‘Jh’ had sent me a computer with all the fancy gadgets and told me Art Vandelay would offer help in setting it up.
Bullet ‘ran’ to my aid and said he could edit my postings, but would need to develop a new alias pseudonym.
The ‘Old Timer’ assured me he could organize the lunch crowd at the Senior Center and guarantee 50 hits per day.
The ‘Donald’ offered me his phone list and said he may even be able to contact Spitzer to see if he can help now that he is without a job.
‘Tom-A-Hawk’ was on board, hands down, as a promise of a high-ranking position with a new blog was reason enough to leave rehab.
And ‘rubble’, whoever he/she is, would surely come around to enter the new blog.
All the ducks were in a row, and I now see you aren’t retiring. What’s with that April Fools stuff anyway? Your time has come and now the wrath of the faithful is at hand. Won’t you reconsider?……..tbi
(Foxy's note: The little prank has rejuvenated me, Forrest. At least for now, I'm staying!)

No disrespect, Foxy, but you didn't fool me. You do what Carver tells you to do like filling your pots full of water in your basement...

Foxy - Truly my oldest son was born on April 1st,1963! I went around with cigars to local bars Arnie's, 4th Ward, Brodi's etc. Many refused them thinking I was pulling a April Fools Joke! Well Foxman; I took the bait hook line and sinker!!!! Bottom line you're staying with the blog! That's great! Leaving on another cruise on Saturday 7 days in beautiful eastern carribbean ! Drinks included! Life is tough when you're retired! Keep the fun articles flowing! Lenny

Foxy that was I beauty! You sure got me, I was thinkin poor ole Foxy is just plain burned out...I see ya got a few of the gang , but not all!
Best one I ever pulled off was probably the time I had my secretary call all my relatives and told them she was from the "water and sewage dept" and there was a problem with the lines and they were going to have to shut the water down in their neighborhoods for several hours.. it was a courtesy call so they'd have time to fill up their jugs and sinks and tubs..my poor sister-in-law was just a scrambling...I stopped by her house to find every pot and pan fiilled to the brim!!
Hey anything like that happen to you yesterday?? Hope you keep boiling that water!
PS: Mr Mathews, glad you're still kickin around, haven't seen or heard from you in a while! ... When Cardany was leading the CVAC in points all those years who do you suppose had all the assists!
(Foxy's note: In fairness to all, I have to admit that The Carver caught me in an April Fool's joke with the "boil your water" call. OK, I deserved it!)

Foxy,
I am not ashamed of being nabbed in such an awesome April Fool's Joke. I have always held you in such high regard going back to my freshman year when you were a senior and you treated everyone in school with respect and dignity ( I just coudn't believe you would mislead me when you have never before, a little catholic school guilt trip here). I was just a little too naive and gave up my nickname although many had guessed already. Glad you are back and I owe you. The last, last time as Bullet.
PS Carver, I can still out many of you guys so be careful.

Please disregard yesterday's comments. I didn't mean them. April Fool!

Foxy, I was too broken up yesterday to reply to the news of your departure. So, last evening I tried to come up with something witty to write about the unforgettable memories you stirred up with your wonderful blog. Even though I have saddle bags under my eyes for lack of sleep over your little "hoax", I am tickled pink to see you're staying. Keep up the good work and tremendous
service you provide for us. I love hearing about the good ole days on the hill when life was simpler, less stressful and just alot of fun for some many reasons.

Good One! I didn't believe it for a minute. I did fall for one that Channel 5 did when I was a kid. It was about a Marshmellow farm, they must have put Marshmellows on 150 trees. Either I got dropped on my head as a kid or needed a few teachers hitting me on the head to knock some sense into me but for a minute they had me thinking Marshmellows grew on trees.

Obviously Bullet is not who he revealed himself to be. Actually kind of irritating that someone would pretend that Bullet and the individual named were one in the same. The gentleman that was identified as Bullet is much too sharp to be caught in the web of an April Fool's Day Prank.
Got to go now, I just heard that negotiations were almost complete to reopen either OLVA or St. John's Academy due to a population increase expected due to IBM relocating here in the fall of 2008, spring of '09 at the latest. Top secret of course.
Even the Donald was caught speechless. Even Jack Stewart caught spee.... , no I guess Jack wasn't caught speechless.
Welcome back, glad to hear it wasn't about the money because as we know in sports, when they say it isn't about the money, it is always about the money.
