Hypocrisy by the United States

By STEPHEN BARTLETT
Staff Writer

PLATTSBURGH — Hypocrisy sang April 19 when an almost 80-year-old government spook/terrorist mastermind posted $350,000 bond to be released on immigration-fraud charges.

Yup, former CIA operative Luis Posada — who had a hand in the Bay of Pigs in 1961, is linked to the horrific bombing of a Cuban airliner that claimed 73 lives and likely tried to snuff out Castro in Panama in 2000 — is free in Miami.

Before his release, there was standing-room only at the circus sideshow starring the Justice Department, shockingly failing to prevent his release. It should be pointed out that the feds were thoughtful enough to slap a bracelet on Posada’s ankle and restrict him to his house.

But isn’t this the same escape artist who made it out of a Venezuelan prison in 1985 in borrowed clericals? I would think our government would be worried about another getaway, unless it knows something it’s not telling us about Posada’s skills at vanishing?!?!

Anyway, Cuban and Venezuelan officials have tried in vain for years to have Posada tried for terrorist acts, and they blame the United States for setting its comrade free. They seem to think America has adopted a “Do as I say, not as I do” attitude.

What? Not the land of the free, home of the brave!?!?

Well, Cuba and Venezuela actually know a little something about the country that in 1954 trained mercenaries to boot a legally elected Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz, who dared expropriate United Fruit’s land to help his already impoverished people.

Castro is all too familiar with a corporate-run government that, within months after he overthrew Batista, started reviewing regime-change options and by the end of the year supported bombing by Cuban exiles like Posada.

And look at it another way. Wouldn’t the United States throw a temper tantrum if Cuba supported a terrorist who killed or tried to kill innocent Americans? Of course, all the government has to do is hire Blackwater or send in the Delta Force and eliminate or extract who they want.

No, this country clearly knows nothing of “Do as I say, not as I do.”

A corporate-run government would never use propaganda and false intelligence to justify a war already planned by the elite to fill the pockets of the energy hogs killing the planet. That type of government would not create and maintain a culture of fear for people already forced to feed the beast raping them, too overworked, underpaid and gripped with worries of food, shelter and health insurance to see through the illusion.

I love the thought of what my country should be.

Excellent post. You're right about the amazing hypocrisy. They pull this bill at the same time they are railroading two Albany clerics and a guy who was taking landscape photos at a lake that happened to also be a water source.

Frankly I happily suprised that Stephen Bartlett has had the guts to express his opinion - is he aware that it could get him on a no-fly list?

What the heck is he talking about?

Hypocrisy is being a newspaper and not using Spellcheck

I'll give you the spell check on the initial run, but I don't think there is a single human being with processing skills out there who would not realize our government is corporate run when viewing global history and America's participation in it. The American idea is still bobbing in the water, and I think it's time to quit waiting until it drowns to see it become reality.

Steve,

Man I am truly impressed with your breadth of knowledge on the South American political scene. Who was that at the PR that said all you did was jog to run your mouth, or run to jog your memory? Seriously though, I concur wholeheartedly. The notion of American democracy could easily be better reflected as American hypocrisy. Your framing of one incident of it is like one gnat slamming against your windshield on a long trip. By the time the trip is over, that one gnat was about as insignificant as... any one incident that we could choose to embarrass America with. America blushes, waits a moment or two, and then finds another way to cloak its hypocrisy. And I do agree with the other blogger who commended you for your courage. I think I believe in Steve!!!

This is a great article! I admire the time and courage Steve has taken to inform the public of the double standards of our government.
This is directed towards TourPro. What is there not to understand about the statement you quoted? Are you one of the many that can't see through the fog created by our government to further the interests of the money hungry corporations? Or maybe you are one of the many who walk around only thinking of yourself and not the best interest of our country. You're exactly what our government is looking for.
Anyway, now that I got that off my chest. Steve, I enjoy reading these articles and look forward to what's coming next.

I see that this has become a sounding board for the "Hate America First" crowd.

I personally like the word "corporate".

It simply means: done by or characteristic of individuals acting together; "a joint identity"; "the collective mind"; "the corporate good"

This does sort of go along with democracy. Not the kind of "democracy" that people try to flee from.

Been to Cuba? Not exactly a "Communist Paradise". Oh, but that's our fault.

I agree that we are being "forced to feed the beast". I'm not for any more taxes, we are already paying enough in NY. Even so, I'm neither overworked, underpaid, or fearing for my basic necessities. Nor do I know anyone who is. Compare our country with any other place in the world. We have demand, they don't.

Heck, I love the American idea. Bu more importantly, I envision a world where the rich do not purchase six homes and seven vehicles, not because they are not allowed, but because they choose to build social, rehabilitative and medical clinics and schools around the world and staff them instead. I see a world where consenting adults aren't restrained by restrictions based on man-made ideas that certain groups, no matter how righteous they believe they are, want all around them to adopt . I see a world, well, where we all just try and get along and smile.
Heck, I know it won't happen. But don't for a second think because I question I hate America, I'm simply not naive to what is occurring around me.

There was a time in America when private individuals did build and fund universities and hospitals, Carnegie to name one. They were called robber barons by those who use envy has a political tool. What countries did for United Fruit was their business - you cannot blame the company if the foreign gov't was corrupt. Most dictatorships are, ask Hugo Chavez or Castro.
As to Luis Posada, if you are going on body count only, then Che has him beat by a mile, AG J. Reno - not by much.

"I see that this has become a sounding board for the "Hate America First" crowd."

Why is speaking the truth automatically turned into hating America? No one living here hates America, they hate the fact that our current Administration allows terrorism when it benefits our government's political goals. Maybe you should read a book that's called "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewen. Do some research into past conflicts or wars as I like to call them. Look into CIA supporting rebels in various countries to overthrow a leader our government doesn't like or doesn't agree with, all in the name of altruism. United States is the best place in the world in my opinion, but it is slowly turning into a third world country, economically we are unbalanced we are importing more than exporting. There will be no middle class all; jobs that make any kind of decent wage are being outsourced, off shored, whatever you would like to call it. And you think Cuba is in bad shape? At least Castro hasn't let the US run him out of office, and believe me they have tried many times! Wake up NorthCountry!!

TM62 has the right idea. What is happening to the USA seems invisible to the majority and that is the formula for societal collapse. Our education system has been broken for so long that it can't be fixed and there is a true need for outsourcing and for importing qualified workers. Admittidly, as I approach the age of 70, I won't be doing much to change the situation and I choose to live in the worlds best climate among some of the worlds nicest people.
